I am really not sure what is happening all of the sudden but my two hard drives frequently show no content inside after resuming from sleep.
I very recently got the new 5GB WD ultra drive formatted as NTFS and installed paragon driver that came with it. The older 4TB drive is still HFS+ and both are connected via USB3.0 hub on my monitor. There had never been any trouble before. Now both drives frequently show empty after waking up the system. The small external SSD on HFS+, connected directly is still live. I have too little USB ports on the old mac so have no choice at all but to use the hub.
I will be migrating away from MAC very soon so it is key that I have some way to transfer data to win / linux compatible storage. I thought this was the answer but it sure looks more like a bat from the hell. Time machine refuses to recognise NTFS drive either, and I'm only asking to backup its data, not on to it.

What is Basilisk II?

Basilisk II is an Open Source 68k Macintosh emulator. That is, it allows you to run 68k MacOS software on your computer, even if you are using a different operating system. However, you still need a copy of MacOS and a Macintosh ROM image to use Basilisk II. Basilisk II is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Cross-platform compatibility between Mac and Windows is not a new concept. Since 1984, Macintosh and PC users have grappled with the problems of reading each other's disks, loading each other's files, and running each other's applications.

Utilities do exist to read Macintosh files on the PC. We even provide such a free utility to read Mac disks on a PC, which is handy for reading a Mac formatted disk that contains a common file such as a Word document, Excel spreadsheet, Photoshop document, or a GIF or JPG or HTML file.

Some popular commercial utilities even go so far as to convert the file format for you, say from Mac Word 5.1 format to Word 2000 format. But the act of conversion may destroy the font information and change the document layout. This type of utility is a bad idea if you plan to 'round trip' the document back to a real Macintosh. It is a one-way operation at best.

Other tools, costing up to hundreds of dollars, do exist to allow Mac and PC computers to network together. But they do not solve the 'round trip' problem of moving a Mac file from a Mac application to a Windows application and then back to the Mac application.

None of these simple file copy utilities are really a good solution for the problems faced by real world Macintosh and Windows users:

The round trip problem - Create a file on a Macintosh. Copy it to a PC and edit it in Windows. Then copy it back to a Macintosh and editing it using the original application. Each time the file may lose font, formatting, and layout information and may require tedious editing to fix to get it back to the way it was originally.
The non-standard file format problem - Some file formats simply can't be converted from Mac to PC. The Mac applications that created the document do not exist for the PC, or the Windows version of the application lacks the ability to do the conversion.
The custom written software problem - Many schools have invested thousands of dollars and years of time in developing customized educational software. While it may be inexpensive to replace the old Macintosh computers with PCs, it is not a trivial matter to rewrite millions of lines of computer code or to purchase thousands of dollars of new software which may not be able to read the old files.
The look-and-feel problem - While many Macintosh applications do have Windows equivalents, most Macintosh users prefer the look and feel of the Mac OS and the way that the applications look and behave on a Mac. What Mac Word user really wants to use Word 2000 or Word XP?

We have a better solution. If you love your Macintosh software and would prefer to use Macintosh applications over Windows applications, but you either have to use a PC or can't resist the low cost of PCs, why not simply use the PC to run the Macintosh software? What a simple idea!

As with most emulators and as explained above, SoftMac requires the ROM BIOS from a Macintosh computer in order to properly work. This is both a legal and technical requirement. If you own a functioning 68K based Macintosh computer, you can run a ROM dumping utility (which we supply) on your Macintosh and save its ROM BIOS to a disk file. The ROM card which we manufacture has 8 ROM sockets which allows you to plug in two or more sets of Macintosh ROMs at once. This gives you the ability to run SoftMac and emulate multiple Macintosh computers at the same time, each running from a different ROM on the ROM card.

If you purchase our ROM card, you have the option to have us pre-install a set of Mac OS 8 compatible Macintosh ROMs on the card. If you wish to save some money and purchase just the ROM card without pre-installed ROMs, or you are an existing customer with a ROM card already installed, you can add your own Macintosh ROMs to the ROM card. You have several ROMs to choose from depending on what kind of Macintosh you wish to emulate and the kind of Macintosh software you wish to run:

For running older 68000 software (typically old Macintosh Plus or Macintosh SE software) you will want to use 128K Macintosh Plus ROMs. These can run System 6, System 7, and System 7.5.5, and do support reading high density 1.44M floppy disks and other Macintosh disks. These ROMs easily plug out of any Macintosh Plus computer because they are always socketed.
The first generation of color Macintosh ROMs are the original Macintosh II series (II, IIx, IIcx, and SE/30). These ROMs support color and are great for running System 7 and System 7.5. They are relatively inexpensive and can be plugged out of most Macintosh II computers because they are usually socketed (except in the IIcx). These ROMs however do not run Mac OS 8 because they are not 32-bit clean and support at most 8 megabytes of memory, limiting their usefulness.
The second generation of Macintosh II ROMs are the 512K, 1M, and 2M ROMs found in the Macintosh IIci, IIsi, LC series, Centris series, and Quadra series computers. These ROMs are 32-bit clean, meaning they support up to 1024 megabytes of Macintosh memory, they run System 7, 7.5, as well as Mac OS 7.6, 8.0, and 8.1, and are generally much faster and less buggy than the original Macintosh II ROMs. These are the ideal ROMs to run with SoftMac and are the type of ROMs that we install with our ROM cards.

The ROM card can accept almost all types of Macintosh ROMs manufactured between about 1984 and 1992, covering everything from the Mac 128 to the higher end Mac IIci and LC models. Although the card cannot physically accept 1M or larger ROMs due to the shape of those ROM chips, the 512K IIci and LC ROMs work just as well and do support Mac OS 8.

To extract the ROMs and install them on the card, first remove the cover from the Macintosh. Look for the ROMs on the motherboard. They will be a 1, 2, or 4 chip set in a 28-, 32-, or 40-pin package. Most Mac motherboards label the ROM chips right on the board with markings such as 'ROM HIGH', 'ROM LOW', 'ROM HH', 'ROM LL', etc.

On each ROM will be part number of the form 341-0XXX or 342-0XXX. The XXX is a 3 digit part number than uniquely identifies each ROM chip. For example, the picture here shows a set of Mac 512 ROMs plugged into the ROM card. If you can read it, note the part numbers on the two chips - the first one is 342-220-A, the second chip is 342-221-A.

Once you unplug the ROMs from the Macintosh, installing the chips is easy. Install the chips in numerically in the order listed in the chart below so that SoftMac will detect them correctly. When installing 28-pin chips, leave empty pins to the left of the chip as pictured above. ROM chips will 32 pins will plug in covering the entire socket. 40 pin ROMs (such as from the LC III) are not supported directly without using additional sockets to sit on top of our card and are not recommended. A ROM image of those ROMs can be used though.

The following is a list of ROMs and part numbers that we've cataloged so far. We will be updating this list as we test ROMs from more Mac models.

For each Macintosh ROM we list the models of computers that the ROM was used in and the unique 'checksum' of the ROM. The checksum is displayed by the ROM dump utility and identifies the specific version of the ROM. Apple released dozens of different Macintosh ROMs over the years. For each ROM we also list the type of processor that it supports, the size of the ROM image, the physical information about the ROM chips, the part number, the versions of Mac OS supported by the ROM, and which emulators support this ROM.

Information that is unknown or unsupported is marked with a * symbol.

ROMs that are marked as 'jumpers' are not standard 28- or 32-pin ROMs and will require extra installation steps. Installing them yourself is not recommended.

Good Evening everyone!
I am as fresh as one can be to OBS (and obviously this forum) as well as recording videos, so I will apologize ahead of time if this is either redundant or obvious to some of you experts in here. However I need some guidance.
The set up I have put together includes a 2011 iMac 27.5' on High Sierra 10.13.6 (it does not allow Mojave or any newer operating systems), and I have my Canon EOS M50 connected to it through an Elgato Cam Link 4k capture card. This seemed to be a very good set up until I realized the trouble I am having just to get video to work on OBS. The set up of a new Video Capture Device on OBS seems pretty simple and straightforward, but I realized soon that I would need something else to complement it that will allow me to begin recording.
I went to the elgato website to download at the OBS Link for Mac. However it requires a newer operating system on Mac that unfortunately I cannot install on this older Mac. I tried to see if the other softwares they have would work some how, but nothing. I downloaded Elgato Capture Card HD software, but it says that the capture card has to be connected to an USB 3 port, so that obviously means my Mac only has USB 2 Ports, like I said, this is all new to me lol.
Everything is leading me to having to purchase a new computer, but I am hoping one of you may have a solution for my issue that just might save me some money at this start up phase. Please help!

Vox for Mac is my favorite music player. I use iTunes for managing my music library and Vox to play my local tracks. Other than Vox for music, I use Spotify for streaming music. Vox and Spotify are the apps I use for media but with Vox 2.1 update that Coppertino pushed two days back, I think I can now remove Spotify and just keep Vox. The features that are added in Vox 2.1 includes SoundCloud integration, that means Vox is now a full-featured SoundCloud app.

When SoundCloud had official app for Mac, I used to use that. But when they discontinued it, I stopped using SoundCloud at all because of the lack a good Mac client. A few days back, I wrote about StreamCloud which is also a SoundCloud app, but unfortunately it isn’t that good and lacks Search and some other features. Luckily, I will be able to stream SoundCloud tracks and play local tracks using the app now.

Collections

Apart from SoundCloud integration, the update also brings Collections. Collections are basically the Playlists. All your Playlists will be indexed in the Collections section. You can create your own collections just by Dragging and Dropping your favorite tracks in the Collections section. It saves collections in a separate file so you can load the collection in case it gets removed from your Vox collections.

Queue

Queue, a new feature lets users add tracks to the queue. So, if you’re playing a track or streaming a track, you can add other tracks to the queue so you won’t have to select and play your favorite tracks manually every time. You can add local tracks, radio, and music from SoundCloud to queue. In the Queue section, you can see all the queued tracks. You can remove tracks manually from the queue if you don’t like it.

SoundCloud Integration

As mentioned above, Vox 2.1 comes with SoundCloud integration and after allowing Vox access to your SoundCloud account, you can manage all your Likes and SoundCloud stream right from the Vox app. After I signed into my SoundCloud account, I thought that the app only lets you listen to your Favorite tracks and Stream. But then I hit the search combination and searched for a track, I saw that it listed tracks from SoundCloud, which made me super happy. You can search and like tracks right from the SoundCloud section in Vox.

Apart from all these useful features, Coppertino also made the Radio Station feature free, which was accessible by an In-app purchase previously. But users can listen only to some limited Radio Stations. By making a $1.99 of In-app purchase, users can access over 3,000+ Radio Stations. The update also fixed some bugs. Vox 2.1 also comes with a new icon in round shape which looks better in dock as compared to the previous one.

Thoughts

Vox 2.1 is pretty similar in interface but with added sections for Collections, Queue and SoundCloud, it looks a bit cluttered. The way the new features are integrated in Vox 2.1 is really nice.

An app that was built to play the file formats which wasn’t supported by iTunes is now a great iTunes alternative. I liked the app right from the starting and still like it because of its amazing interface and straight functionality.

Our Preferred Free Media Player for macOS — IINA

IINA is slick new video-playing app for the Mac. Developers of the player call IINA the modern media player for macOS. And, if you ask us, that is true from every single aspect. That is why we gave the first position to this open-source media player for macOS.

About IINA

IINA is a free, open-source media player that is in active development. While IINA handles audio and video content alike, we recommend it for watching movies and videos mainly. Compared to VLC and similar free media players, IINA packs a number of advanced features. For instance, you can avail support for Picture-in-Picture and Dark Mode on macOS.

Now that you have a basic idea about IINA, we will check out the other aspects of the program. First of all, we will check out the User Interface.

UI & Video Playback

We won’t think twice to call IINA the cleanest media player for macOS. Just as you can see in the screenshots below, IINA Player keeps everything super-clean. Once installed, getting started with IINA is very easy. You can simply drag-and-drop the file you want to play into the IINA interface. Or, if you want to play an online stream, you can open the URL too.
There isn’t anything new about the playback screen, though. The control panel is placed at the bottom-center portion of the screen and you have many keyboard shortcuts to assist. IINA also makes the right use of Mac gestures. You can move your fingers on the touchpad to seek the video content. Clicking the Settings button would, however, open up a whole set of options.

You can change various aspects of playback such as the aspect ratio, crop, rotation, playback speed etc. And, in case you are really into that sort of stuff, you can also equalize visual elements like brightness, contrast and saturation etc. There are different tabs for controlling audio playback and subtitle control as well. Both these are great when you want a customized media consumption experience.

In short, the playback screen of IINA resembles that of VLC but there are more things inside. For instance, it has a thumbnail feature that we really loved. This is great while trying to find a specific part of a movie or a long video. Similarly, the quick-access buttons to Picture-in-Picture mode and Settings are also great from a media enthusiast point of view.

Music Playback

IINA isn’t a dedicated music player, but it does the job very well. Once again, IINA UI sticks to the philosophy of minimalism.
You will be able to control the basic playback from the mini-screen and access the playlist below. While the screen seems quite small, there are options to create and manage multiple music playlists. And, yes, you can always go back to the full screen and access options like Audio Equalizer. If you want a dedicated music play experience, make sure that you enable the option.

Altogether, we were really impressed by what IINA had to offer here.

Customization

IINA is surely one of the most customizable macOS media players out there. From playback to the UI, almost everything can be customized according to your requirements. In fact, a simple look at the Preferences tab would give you the best idea.
As you can see, there are hundreds of options, spread over nine categories. For instance, you can go to the General tab and change how IINA responds when you open a media file. Or, if you take screenshots, you can check where they’re being saved to.

If you go to Control section, there is something really cool. You can decide how actions like scrolling as well as seeking work. You can also assign specific actions to single and double-clicks you make via your touchpad. Altogether, we’re talking about 100% customizability.

Features Worth Noting

Let’s now have a look at some of the additional features we loved in IINA.

Dark Mode
IINA comes with a dark mode that goes really well with macOS system. Even if you have not turned on Dark Mode on your macOS Mojave system, you can alter the settings for IINA. This is great when you want to get a seamless media viewing experience.
Picture in Picture Mode
We already talked about this. IINA makes use of the native macOS feature for picture-in-picture. This means your media file would be playing in a small window floating on top of other windows. This is great when you want to watch movies/videos while you’re working.
Advanced Subtitle Settings
This is something we really love in every media player and IINA gets that right. There is a dedicated bunch of options for controlling how subtitles appear on screen. You can also adjust subtitle delay, which is a superb feature while finding movies online.

I created HiLight tags in Quik for desktop. Why don't they appear in GoPro Studio?

In order for a HiLight tag to transfer from Quik for desktop to GoPro Studio, you must alter the metadata of the video file. Since this isn't a possibility, HiLight tags created in Quik for desktop will NOT transfer to GoPro Studio.
If you create HiLight tags from the camera either during or after recording, then those tags will appear in both Quik for desktop and GoPro Studio. Once the file is imported onto your hard drive, however, that metadata cannot be overwritten, so new tags can't be added permanently.

When deleting media in Quik for desktop, does it move the file to the trash?

Yes, when deleting media within the application, it WILL delete the media from Quik for desktop application AND the original file location. It will then move the file to the trash bin. Before proceeding with deletion, there will always be a reminder for file deletion within Quik for desktop.

Why can't I choose the Installation Directory for Quik for desktop?

GoPro App for Desktop can only be installed on the system drive where the operating system resides. It would need install important components on the system library in order to operate the application.

Can I control and change my camera settings through Quik for desktop similar to the GoPro app?

No, you cannot control or change the camera settings through Quik for desktop. The application is the easiest way to offload and enjoy your GoPro photos and videos.

Can I wirelessly transfer my footage from my camera to my computer through Quik for desktop?

You can only transfer your footage through a USB cable or micro SD card adapter connected to your computer. There is no wireless setup.

My camera is not recognized on Quik for desktop?

HERO8 Black and MAX cameras are not fully supported by Quik for desktop, and they will not be recognized by the app when plugged into your computer.
